FAQ

Common questions

What is the reference price for XAU/USD on this site?

Our reference price is around 4275.0, used as a starting point for examples and calculator inputs. It is not a live quote and will drift from the market. For any real decision, read the current price from your broker's platform, since that is the price your order will actually be filled against.

What actually moves the gold price?

Gold responds mainly to US dollar strength, real interest rate expectations, and demand for defensive assets when risk appetite falls. Central bank buying and physical demand also matter. Because XAU/USD is dollar-priced, peso-based readers see a second layer of movement from the dollar-peso rate itself.

Why is gold quoted in USD when I am trading from the Philippines?

Gold trades internationally against the US dollar, so XAU/USD is the standard contract and liquidity sits in that pair. Your broker may let you hold a peso account, but the underlying position is still dollar-denominated, so your result in pesos depends on both the gold move and the dollar-peso conversion.

Is gold more volatile than the peso pairs I might trade on other platforms?

Gold can move sharply, and because one standard lot is 100 oz, the peso value of a given pip move is large relative to small positions. Volatility clusters around US data releases and shifts in rate expectations. That is a reason to size from risk per trade rather than from the margin your broker allows.

Where does the PSE fit if I want gold exposure?

The PSE is an equity exchange and does not list spot gold. Trading XAU/USD is a separate, leveraged product offered by brokers, not an exchange-listed share. If you want exchange-traded exposure you would look at listed instruments, but those carry company and market risk rather than tracking spot gold directly.
